Private Transfers in Albania — Airport, City & Beach

Overview

The Short Answer

A private transfer in Albania is a chauffeured, door-to-door ride at a fixed price — no meter, no surge, no navigation stress. Airport transfers from Tirana (TIA) start at €25 (city centre) and go up to €160 (Saranda, 4-5 hours). All-day transfers with stops start at €120. Vehicles range from compact sedans (1-3 pax) to 8-seat vans. English-speaking drivers on request. Cheaper than a rental once you factor in fuel, tolls, parking and stress — and easily the safest way to arrive after a late-night flight.

Riviera transfers

Between coastal towns — Vlorë, Radhimë, Orikum, Dhërmi, Himarë, Qeparo, Borsh, Saranda, Ksamil — private transfers cost €25-60 per hop. Most take 30-90 minutes via the scenic SH8 through Llogara Pass. Ferry-connection transfers to and from Saranda port (for Corfu crossings) are €10-20 depending on Saranda pickup location.

Overview

When to book vs walk-up

Always pre-book for late-night airport arrivals, transfers to the Riviera in July-August (drivers get overwhelmed with airport runs), and any route longer than 2 hours. Walk-up taxis at TIA cost €25-35 to the city but usually don't do long distances — and if they do, the price is negotiated in the moment, not published. Pre-booked = fixed price, guaranteed vehicle, English-speaking driver, no surprises. See our private driver service to check live rates for your route.

What every fixed price includes

Meet-and-greet at international arrivals with a printed name sign, luggage handling from the terminal to the vehicle, 1 hour of free waiting time counted from actual landing (not scheduled), child seats or booster on request at no extra charge, complimentary bottled water in the car, and an English-speaking driver. Late arrivals, cancelled flights and gate changes are tracked automatically via the flight number you provide at booking.

Round-trip and multi-city discounts

Booking the return leg at the same time as the outbound usually saves 10 to 15 percent versus two separate one-way bookings. Multi-city itineraries (TIA to Berat, then Berat to Sarandë three days later, then Sarandë to TIA at trip end) can be routed with the same operator for further discounts and consistent vehicles.

How to book

Reserve online with a card to lock the price. Payment terms vary: some drivers require a small deposit, most collect the full amount in cash or by card on completion. See our rental options for live rates matched to your dates and vehicle preference.

Overview

Group transfers, individual pickups & meet-and-greet

Not every transfer needs to be a private ride. The right format depends on party size, arrival timing and how much stopping around you want along the way.

Shared shuttle services

A shared shuttle from TIA to Sarandë runs twice a day in summer at €35 per person. It is the cheapest way south, but slower (roughly 5 h 30 with stops in Vlorë and Himara) and less flexible on pickup timing. Suits solo backpackers on tight budgets. In winter the shared route drops to one departure per day or is cancelled entirely; check with the operator 48 hours before travel.

Private van for small groups

A private van seats up to 8 passengers with luggage. The fixed price makes economic sense for 3 or more travellers: split €200 for TIA to Sarandë across 4 people and you are at €50 each, faster than the shared shuttle and door-to-door. Larger vans (up to 16 pax) are available for tour groups on advance notice, with an executive minibus tier for corporate clients.

Meet-and-greet standard

What to expect at Tirana airport: your driver waits inside the international arrivals hall with a printed name sign; helps you and your luggage to the vehicle in the short-stay car park; carries bottled water in the car; has a mobile phone with data for calling ahead to your hotel; and speaks working English. Add a note on booking if you need a specific language or accessibility support and most operators can arrange it.

Wait-time policy

60 minutes free after the flight lands (tracked automatically). €10 per additional half-hour after that. If your bags are delayed at customs, tell the driver by phone or WhatsApp when you land; almost all will hold without extra charge for genuine baggage delays.

Multi-stop transfers

Adding stops along the route (TIA to hotel to dinner to hotel) costs €10 to €15 per extra stop. Handy for airport pickups where you want to drop luggage before heading to dinner in Blloku, or on long-distance transfers with a lunch stop in Berat.

Cancellation and payment

Most operators offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup; a €20 admin fee applies for late cancellations within 24 hours; no refund for no-show. Payment is usually reserved online with a card and settled in cash or by card at the vehicle. Most drivers now carry SumUp POS terminals, so card acceptance is much better than it was two seasons ago.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

1How much is a taxi from Tirana Airport to the city?

Metered airport taxis charge a fixed €20-25 to the city centre. Pre-booked private transfers with meet-and-greet and an English-speaking driver run €25-30 — usually only a few euros more, with much less friction at 2 AM.

2Are the drivers licensed and insured?

Yes. All drivers on our platform are licensed by the Albanian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport for commercial passenger transport. Vehicles carry commercial insurance for passengers. Certificates on request.

3Can I make stops during a long transfer?

Yes — that's how a lot of Tirana→Saranda customers do it. Add 2-3 short stops (photo, coffee, viewpoint) at no extra cost. Full sightseeing stops (Berat castle, wine tasting) add €10-25/hour to the transfer price. Discuss with your driver at booking.

4What size vehicle do I need?

Sedan for 1-3 passengers with normal luggage. Minivan (Mercedes Vito, VW Caravelle) for 4-7 pax or more luggage. 8-seat van for larger groups. Roof racks / trailers available on request for surfboards, skis, bikes.

5What if my flight is delayed?

We monitor flight status via the flight number you provide at booking. Drivers wait free up to 60 minutes past scheduled landing. Beyond that, a €10-20 wait fee may apply — but in practice most transfers accommodate delays without extra charge.

6Can I pay in cash to the driver?

Yes. Cash (EUR or ALL Lek) or card at booking. Cash-to-driver is common — just confirm at reservation. Tipping is at your discretion; €5-10 is customary for a smooth long-distance transfer.
